An innovator when it comes to sandals that custom-mold to your feet, Johann Adam Birkenstock, a simple cobbler, first began designing footwear in Germany way back in 1774. It was in 1902 that Birkenstock developed the first contoured Arch Support. Then, 30 years later, Birkenstocks Footbeds began earning endorsements from leading Physicians and Podiatrists.
What began being made from the hands of one lone, German Cobbler back in 1774, has grown into a unique worldwide company. In 2016 Birkenstock celebrated its 50th year of their footwear being sold in the USA, with their American Sales & Service being based on the West Coast, out of Novato, California.
