Glerups Slippers are made in Scandinavia and reflect old-world craftsmanship at its finest. Crucial parts of their production are still done by hand, to assure you get a premium made pair of slippers. Their factory has strict quality controls in place, because they always strive to produce the world's highest quality slippers.
The wool used for their footwear is naturally breathable and captures up to 35% moisture, so your feet will always feel warm and dry. The combination of wool's wear resistance, and its high moisture absorption rate, is a unique feature that makes it superior to all other materials.
Glerups are made from a long-standing tradition of hand-felting, that results in a slipper that is not only beautiful, but flexible and durable. Their slippers are made out of 100% pure and natural wool, that feels good, even against the naked foot. The wool of their slippers is soft, warm and wonderfully itch-free.
Gerups is a Danish family name and they are proud to use it as their company name. It reflects the history of their footwear being family made.
The making of their slippers started out as a family hobby for Nanny Glerups in Denmark, back in 1993. Nanny began making felted boots for her family and friends. Using the wool from her own Gotland sheep, she found that she was able to handcraft up to two pairs of boots per day.
Nanny's felted boots were well-received and became quite popular. Over time, so many people came to her to request a pair, that she found she was unable to keep up with the demand.
Nanny and her husband Ove decided to work together to develop her craft and find ways to increase production, while continuing to keep use handcrafting in the manufacturing process. Today, they are selling their beautiful felt slippers and indoor shoes worldwide.
Glerups care about humans and their environment. They have chosen to mechanically clean the wool they use, rather than use harmful chemicals. When it comes to the dyeing process of their wool, they only use colors that are free of heavy metals and toxic azo-dyes.
Glerups slippers have either a sole of semi-vegetable tanned calfskin, or natural rubber.
The Calfskin used in their slippers are from a European Tannery that meets the strict environmental requirements of the EU. The skins are tanned using the most modern and environmentally friendly methods, that are free of PCP, AZO dyes and Chromium-VI. Glerups uses semi-vegetable tanned leathers, while using chrome-tanned leathers for many of the other models.
Glerups notes: "natural rubber or leather soles may be slippery on wet and icy surfaces" as well as on tile floors.
