Minnetonka entered the footwear scene way back in 1946, being sold at roadside gift shops along America's classic highways. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, fringe-laden styles symbolized and showcased the independent spirit of women all across the country and Minnetonka was the brand to wear to make that fashion statement. In the 1980's, the Urban Cowboy craze took over, prompting a surge in popularity of their Thunderbird Moccasin footwear line. Then the 2000's saw a reigniting of the Boho Chic footloose type of lifestyle. As the Bohemian style became all the rage, many were drawn to Minnetonka's bold, layered styles made of relaxed leathers and soft suedes, that expressed their "footloose" type of lifestyle that is a bit unconventional.
Minnetonka has promoted their "Me-to-We" Moccasin Program" which helps women in Africa become global, independent businesswomen and leaders in their communities.
